www.streetartutopia.com

This site is amazing. I always appreciate art like this because it is very unique and hard to do. I especially like the ones that make the ground look like something else, like the ones shown below..

Others just look like it was done on a computer not really painted. Still enjoyable.

NIKE Snowboard Boots

As you all know they started off making sneakers. The SWOOSH logo is a graphic design created by Caroline Davidson in 1971. It represents the wing of the Greek Goddess NIKE. Caroline Davidson was a student at Portland State University in advertising. She met Phil Knight while he was teaching accounting classes and she started doing some freelance work for his company. Phil Knight asked Caroline to design a logo that could be placed on the side of a shoe. She handed him the SWOOSH, he handed her $35.00. In spring of 1972, the first shoe with the NIKE SWOOSH was introduced.....the rest is history!

History of Burton Snowboards

One of the first snowboard companies in the world, Burton Snowboards Inc. designs, manufactures, and markets a full line of snowboarding equipment, clothing, and related accessories. Although snowboarding did not become a well-recognized sport until the early 1990s, Burton began manufacturing snowboards and bindings in 1977, when the company's founder started making his own boards in a borrowed woodworking shop in Stratton, Vermont. From these modest origins, Burton developed into a flourishing enterprise with offices in Europe and Japan that served customers in 27 countries. Recognized as an industry pioneer, Burton controlled roughly 40 percent of the U.S. snowboarding market during the late 1990s, more than any other company in the world.

David Carson Design

Currently calling New York his base of operations, Carson was born in Corpus Christi, Texas and spent much of his early life in southern California where he was a high school teacher before becoming a designer. Ingrained within the surfing sub-culture of southern California, Carson started experimenting with graphic design during the mid 1980s. Not only a designer, in 1989 he has qualified as the 9th best surfer in the world. His interest in the world of surfing gave him the opportunities to experiment with design, working on several different publications related to the profession. Transworld Skateboarding, Beach Culture, How Magazine and RayGun were among the primary publications on which he worked. However, it was RayGun where he gained perhaps the most recognition and was able to share his design style, characterized by "dirty" type which adheres to none of the standard practices of typography and is often illegible, with the widest audience. After the success of RayGun, and press from the New York Times and Newsweek, he formed his own studio. David Carson Design was founded in 1995 and is still home to Carson and his work.

Vector Christmas Cards
Since were doing them in class I figured why not blog some interesting designs

I found this on stumble-upon and figured it was a pretty good resource to use when your looking for inspiration or tips with programs. The site includes graphic design, typography, freelance, image source, and many more links to useful sites. biggest-ever-list-of-design-resources

I also stumbled on this site.  Fedrigoni are a well established, Italian paper company who have refined the art and science of making fine quality special papers. The challenge was to create a campaign which will ensure the entire UK design industry hears about the paper selection tool, consisting of 262 various paper samples which enables designers to choose the best shade and most suitable surface for their very next project.

The Design Associates is a fun site. It's interactive, and the designs are all really fun. I believe this group was in the artist book as well.

Sidewalk Chalk Art

This art style has always sort of fascinated me. I like when the artist breaks the two-dimensional plane by creating very realistic three-dimensional elements that extend the eye from our world into that of the art. Another interesting concept associated with this particular art form is its ephemeral existence. It cannot be preserved as the chalk will eventually rub away or wash away with the rain. I've included some images below:

Around the world there are many different styles of art. Art is an action and a passion that many people use to express themselves. Graffiti is something that i consider a form of art. Although a significant number of people label graffiti as vandalism, I  come to respect it as a form of an artistic expression. When I'm at home taking the train or the subway to get around I like to look at many amazing graffiti murals done by very talented people.

St Lucia's Day

While attempting to develop my holiday card, I've learned quite a bit about the Swedish holiday of St Lucia's Day. Celebrated on the 13th of December, it is dedicated to a christian saint, Lucia, who was put to death because of her faith. As the tale goes, she would bring food and water to the persecuted Christians in the catacombs beneath Rome. She would wear candles about her head to keep her hands free for carrying and so that the refugees would be able to see her coming in the darkness below. Their Christmas traditions are very similar to our own, but their "Santa Claus" is called "Jultomten" or just "Tomten" and looks more like a small gnomish character who drives a sleigh of goats rather than a large round man driving a sleigh of reindeer.

FISCHER Thierry

Another artist that I found on Coroflot, Thierry has a very futuristic style in his design work. He uses sleek curvature and very geometric forms. He also incorporates metallic looking materials with a more basic color palette with less saturated colors. I really like his work as it has a post-modern, techie-feel to it that gives us a taste to a more technology driven society.

Michael DiTullo

Using Coroflot, I decided I would take a look at some of its more popular artists as a source of inspiration for my own work and to provide others with a sense of what designers across the globe are doing today. I really enjoy Michael's work. He has a very playful style that is not only seen in his conceptual art for toys, but all of his work ranging from furniture to shoe design. His use of color really gives us this sense as they are strong and vibrant. Below are a few pieces of his work.

Adventure pack - so cool.

Cyborg teddy bear - heck yes.

Colorful and not so colorful sneakers.

Some interesting chair designs.

Speed art is something I enjoy to watch on youtube.  This is an art piece done in photoshop by a Freelance artist MichyBaps.

INK = ART

Nowadays I've come to realize an increasing number of people who are interested in tattoos as they see it as an art form rather than a mark of rebellion. Like myself I too believe tattoos are a form of art and the body is your canvas. As a person with tattoos, I believe that they are seen as a sign of expression, personality and freedom, and these are factors that are  associated with art in general.

Digital Fantasy Art Painting By : Kim Young Min

Fantasy art is something i enjoy looking at and is also an inspiration. Its art that can me made up from your own imagination and you have no limits to portray something thats not considered real in our world.

I was bored in the library and decided to make a couple of my favorite pokemon as a kid. Sometimes when i need a break from an essay or project, i like to just do something simple or challenging on Illustrator to keep my skills fresh

Q Workshop Paper

Q. Cassetti was able to come to our class for a workshop in graphic design and It was a real pleasure learning some things from such a professional. She taught us some quick tricks that are sure to come in handy in the future and shortcuts that could make life easier while using Illustrator. I enjoyed learning how to make brushes even though I don’t really remember how to do it, but when she was doing it up on the board it made sense to me and it seemed easy, something anyone could do. Ways to make patterns such as candy canes and apply those to brushes was great to see and I’m sure it could come in handy in the near future. Learning to save symbols for their possible use in the future was also helpful, and it could always make life easier. I want to use her techniques in the near future to create brushes and patterns to use as I think it looks pretty easy. The way she used mirroring objects and by only creating half to create a whole was really interesting to me as it takes less time than it would to create a full object. Seeing how she used simple shapes to help create brushes and patterns taught me it can be simple and I don’t have to be an expert to do certain things.
Q was a really nice lady and seemed like she really knew what she was doing, but didn’t have to me completely serious and she was funny and a great person to learn from. Being a great teacher and speaker really helps when trying to teach others and I really loved her vibe and personality because I could understand it and learn from it. I’m glad I was there for most of her workshop and was able to learn a few things that could make life easier in the design world.
